Fingerlimes – Citrus australasica
‘They be small but mighty’
Fingerlimes are native to Australia, traditionally found naturally in the sub-tropical rainforests of the New South Wales Northern rivers through to Queensland hinterlands. The powerful medicinal and well-being benefits of these super fruits were a dietary stable and of cultural significance to the aboriginal people long before the European settlers almost wiped out the thorny little trees through land clearing. Millicent farms are located in the heart of the mighty Clarence Valley, bordering the Northern rivers region of New South Wales.

Sadly, at present there are more fingerlimes grown overseas than in their native Australian homeland. Of such concern, along with a handful of other passionate and dedicated Australian fingerlime growers, we established the Australian Native Fingerlime Alliance (ANFA) in 2024. A not-for-profit organisation with a growing membership. Committed to protecting the Australian provenance of fingerlimes, securing the future and integrity of our industry.

Why grow Fingerlimes?
"Why would you put caviar on Scallops”
It all started with that one comment after being presented with an aromatic dish of seared scallops and citrus caviar that led to an incredible life changing experience.

That unforgettable first punch in the mouth by the red ‘caviar looking’ citrus pearls kicked off my obsession with Australian fingerlimes. One potted tree in a suburban block was the stepping stone to now farming 65 acres and growing hundreds of fingerlime trees of 5 fruit varieties. Whilst supplying fresh fruit was originally our aim, the unique versatility of this fruit has never ceased to amaze me, I am as captivated today as I was in the early years, constantly experimenting and creating new flavours and products.

The thumb - finger like shaped fruit with a fragrant bitter skin, hides the little punchy lime juice pearls that explode when popped in your mouth to create their own ‘Richter scale’ of taste, ranging from a citrus sweetness to sour. Each variety holds its place on the fingerlime rainbow spectrum, from deep reds to pinks, greens, yellows, clear and a myriad of blended colours in between.

The Name
Our daughter Millicent keeps the focus for ensuring we are giving back and staying on a pathway of continually improving the land and environment for her generation and those beyond.

We treasure the notebook that holds many months of initial rough hand drawn logos and long lists of names as we tried to find the business name to define us for who we are, and why we are so the passionate about what we are doing. Continually reviewing I kept dismissing the randomly scattered scribbles and sweet drawings throughout the pages by our then 4 year old trying to spell her name and write us letters. The name was in the book. Millicent.

Millicent Farms range of fingerlime produce and products pays homage to the versatility of this magical little fruit, and its ability to produce products from salted spices to the subtlety of sweetened syrups. You may detect a slight change in colour from your previous order, this is because we will only use fruit as it ripens we may have more ‘reds’ or ‘greens’ available at certain times. We will not compromise on our quality or processing techniques.
Our fingerlime range is continually growing, 2025 will see the introduction of the Dessert Dust range and other new products still under wraps.
